What if my father was born in Belfast prior to 1921, could I apply?

Yes. In order to apply for an Irish passport you need to have at least one grandparent born on the Island of Ireland, it doesnt matter if they were born north or south, post or pre 1921. To get Irish citizenship youll need to register on the Foreign Births Registry. This website explains what you need to do; Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
