Is there a "European passport industry" in countries like the US,?
In Australia at least, some people who have European heritage get a EU passport but not generally for health or economics reasons as the Australian economy is relatively healthy and we have pretty good health care. And we can already go to the USA without a visa under the Visa Waiver program so no need for another passport for that. So I doubt there is the same European passport industry in Australia
