What do I have to do if I go on an Alaskan cruise and a part of that?
Do you need a passport? Assuming you are a US citizen, then no. You'll need your government-issued ID (driver's license), your certified birth certificate, and your marriage license if your name changed when you were married. In other words, your driver's license has to match your birth certificate. That being said, you could always just get a U.S. passport and just show that instead. Since you won't be cruising for a few months at minimum, you have plenty of time to get it. Here's why I suggest getting a passport: 1. Fewer important documents to keep track of, lose, or have stolen. 2. You'll have more options for excursions in Alaska. For example, in Skagway you wouldn't be able to take most of the White Pass excursions that go into Canada; those excursions require a passport and not just a birth certificate. (Note: there is one White Pass excursions that goes just a few feet into Canada and then immediately turns around; you do not leave the train nor do you need a passport) 3. It lasts for 5 years if you're under 16 years old or 10 years if you're older than 16 years old. 4. If this is your first cruise, you're probably going to want to go on more. Alaska is an amazing cruise destination, but you'll start dreaming of our next cruise before you even disembark. With a passport, you can plan cruises to any destination across the world!
