Is it true that if you are gay and have a passport from a Muslim?
It takes a few months to be granted asylum. after that, you need to apply for a work permit and the for Permanent Residency status. That takes about a year. After that you can apply for citizenship in four or five years. Permanent residency gives you the vast majority of privileges that Citizenship has. Please note two things. According to the Canadian government it is rare that someone who is not gay, applies for asylum stating they are gay. Second, just because you get a Canadian passport, if for some reason you want to return to your home country ie Iran, they don't recognize your Canadian passport. To them you are an Iranian citizen. So they are happy to throw you in jail if they feel like it. Be prepared never to return.
