Does an Indian retain its Indian citizenship proof after getting a?
Indian constitution does not allow dual citizenship. but this is applicable when you obtain citizenship of another country, not PR. PR is just a long-stay visa so you wont lose Indian citizenship while you are a PR of Canada or any other country. Surrender of Indian Passport. As per the Passports Act 1967, it is mandatory for all Indian passport holders to surrender their passports to the nearest Indian Mission/Post immediately after acquisition of foreign nationality. When you become citizen of Canada, you will need to obtain Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI). This program is meant for NRIs that gives you the right to travel and stay in India but you wont have citizenship rights like voting, having Indian passport, getting government jobs etc. When traveling to India, you will need to carry the passport (Canadian) that has Life Long visa stamp. Only the OCI card will not suffice, unless it has the visa stamped on it.
