Why are Canada and Australia so reluctant to embrace vaccine?
I cant speak for Canada, but at present theres around 2% of the Australian population which has received both shots of one or the other vaccines used (were giving both AstraZeneca and Pfizer right now). The percentage to have received at least one shot is a tick north of 16%, which is better than it was, but neither number is exactly something to write home about yet. As a result, the risk posed by a situation where a vaccine passport goes wrong, for want of a better word, is much too great. By that I mean one of the following three scenarios: Traveller has a fraudulently-obtained vaccine passport Travellers vaccine isnt as strong as the government wants it to be Traveller is infectious anyway If youre thinking that none of those three situations could ever happen, youre dreaming. Thats not to say that this is one of those forever things, as the philosopher Bartholomew J Simpson once said. There are certain to be discussions going on among health experts and political leaders regarding the percentage of the population to be immunised before the borders can start to re-open. The government has in fact said that there are, and I doubt this is mere spin. The method of re-opening the borders is highly likely to involve some sort of requirement of vaccination. Just dont expect it tomorrow is all.
