What would happen if Japan abolished passport exit control at?

Not gonna happen. Theres no reason to drop exit passport controls, and plenty of reasons to keep doing it. Japan, like many (most) countries, wants to keep an eye on who enters and leaves the country: Are you allowed to leave? ie Are you, Japanese national or foreigner, wanted by the Police or another government organization? And in which case they wont let you leave. As a foreigner, have you overstayed your visa? In which case, you wont be able to leave just quite yet As a foreign resident, are you leaving Japan for good? You need to hand over your resident card, if memory serves. So it just wont happen. Plus, the Japanese society is a tightly controlled one, so letting go of any checks will be alien to them.
