In a globalised world, does the value of citizenship ultimately come?
Did you kiss the Blarney Stone while wrapped in old copies of the Financial Times? Globalised as jargon comes from the world of commerce, principally, not the world of diplomacy, international relations, or paperwork. Discussing the value of citizenship is meaningless, for it cannot be traded. Or at least: not by the man in the street. I knew a man who qualified for the label master criminal: he once said that he thought a complete, functioning British identity was worth about 600,000. Somehow I doubt this is the kind of answer youre looking for.
