Can I visit Canada with an expired passport and birth certificate?
If you are an American citizen, you can no longer travel to Canada with a birth certificate and a photo identification. You must have a valid passport if you are flying there and if you are traveling by land, you must have either a valid passport or a valid passport card which the United States, State Department, started issuing several years ago for travel to Canada, Mexico and countries in the Caribbean. You can also use an enhanced drivers license that some states issue in the United States.
