Can I get to Canada with an Italian passport?

Italian citizens traveling on Italian passports dont need a visa to visit Canada as another answer here implies. Presuming you plan to come to Canada on an airplane (its a long boat ride and an even longer swim) you will however need an ETA (electronic travel authorization) before you fly to Canada. This only costs 7 Canadian dollars but you should apply for it at least 2 weeks before traveling. Most applications are approved within a few minutes however delays happen occasionally. Aside from that when you get to Canada you will still have to prove to Canadian immigration officers that you have the necessary funds to support yourself while in Canada and be prepared to answer questions about the purpose of your visit and where you are going. If you plan to study or stay for an extended period of time you may need a visa before arriving in Canada; if you plan to work or stay in Canada permanently then you will need a visa or some other document before arrival.
