Can I get a UK passport if my grandfather or grandmother was born?

If you have a Grandparent born in the UK and you are a citizen of a Commonwealth country (of good standing - in other words no criminal record), you can apply for an Ancestry visa. This gives you the right to live and work in the UK for 5 years. It has become more and more expensive plus you have to pay a NHS surcharge and like most visas there is no recourse to public funds if you lose your job, etc. After 5 years of residence, you can apply for indefinite leave to remain and a year later for British citizenship. The whole process is about 6 years and more than 5,000. To be clear, you need to really reside in the UK for the five years. Lots of people try to do this while only pretending to live in the UK. It usually doesnt end well.
